This chapter applies only to the school district in Cook County. It is an independent school district subject to the laws that govern independent school districts. Its official name is Independent School District No. 166, Cook County.
This chapter prevails if this chapter is inconsistent with a law that governs independent school districts.
The school board of Independent School District No. 166 has five members.
The term of a school board member is four years. A term begins on the first Monday in January after the election.
Three school board members are elected at one state general election and two are elected at the next state general election.

In Independent School District No. 166, each county commissioner district is an election district. One school board member is elected from each election district.

The school board of Independent School District No. 166 must hold its annual meeting on, or as soon as practicable within ten days after, the Tuesday after the first Monday in January.
