     90.01 Definitions.  

    Subdivision 1.  Unless the language or context clearly 
 indicates that a different meaning is indicated, the following 
 terms, for the purposes of this chapter shall have the meanings 
 ascribed to them.  

    Subd. 2.  "Department" means the department of natural 
 resources of the state of Minnesota.  

    Subd. 3.  "Commissioner" means the commissioner of natural 
 resources or agents thereof.  

    Subd. 4.  "Scaler" means a qualified bonded person 
 designated by the commissioner to measure cut forest products.  

    Subd. 5.  "State appraiser" means an employee of the 
 department designated by the commissioner to appraise state 
 lands.  

    Subd. 6.  "Timber" means trees that will produce forest 
 products of value whether standing or down, and including but 
 not limited to logs, posts, poles, bolts, pulpwood, cordwood, 
 lumber and decorative material.  

    Subd. 7.  "Permit" means the written authorization of the 
 commissioner to cut timber on state lands.  

    Subd. 8.  "Permit holder" means the person holding a permit 
 to cut timber on state lands.  

    Subd. 9.  "Person" means any natural person acting 
 personally, or in any representative capacity, and any 
 corporation, firm, or association of whatever nature or kind.
