For direct measurements performed according to part 4731.4422, a licensee must possess and use instrumentation to measure the activity of unsealed radioactive material before it is administered to a patient or human research subject.
A licensee must check and test the instrumentation required under item A according to nationally recognized standards or the manufacturer's instructions and at the following intervals as applicable:
test each instrument for linearity upon installation and at intervals not to exceed three months thereafter;
test each instrument for accuracy upon installation and at intervals not to exceed 12 months thereafter; and
A licensee must also perform the required checks and tests in this part following adjustment or repair of the instrument.
The licensee must keep a record of geometry dependence for the duration of the use of the instrument and must retain a record of all other instrument checks and tests for three years. The records must include:
