Laws of Minnesota 1993 CHAPTER 276-S.F.No. 1320 An act relating to education; requesting consultation on, and requiring consideration of content about, college preparation courses; providing an appeal procedure; amending Minnesota Statutes 1992, section 129C.10, by adding a subdivision. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 1992, section 129C.10, is amended by adding a subdivision to read: Subd. 3b. [APPEAL.] A parent who disagrees with a board action that adversely affects the academic program of an enrolled pupil may appeal the board's action to the commissioner of education within 30 days of the board's action. The decision of the commissioner shall be binding on the board. The board shall inform each pupil and parent at the time of enrolling of a parent's right to appeal a board action affecting the pupil's academic program. Sec. 2. [PREPARATION REQUIREMENTS.] Subdivision 1. [CONSULTATION.] The board of regents of the University of Minnesota and the state university board are requested to consult with school district officials and vocational and technical teachers to determine the content of the courses being offered and the appropriateness of substituting them for admission requirements. The boards must consider how well the content of these courses will prepare students for collegiate work. Subd. 2. [REPORT.] The boards shall report their findings to the education committees of the legislature by February 1, 1994.
