Laws of Minnesota 1990 CHAPTER 379-H.F.No. 2594 An act relating to commerce; regulating trade practices; prohibiting contracts from providing an exclusive right to display free newspapers for distribution in any place of public accommodation; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 325E. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: Section 1. [325E.34] [FREE NEWSPAPERS; EXCLUSIVE RIGHT TO DISTRIBUTE PROHIBITED.] Subdivision 1. [DEFINITIONS.] For the purposes of this section, the terms in paragraphs (a) and (b) have the meanings given them. (a) "Newspaper" has the meaning given in section 331A.01, subdivision 5. (b) "Place of public accommodation" has the meaning given in section 363.01, subdivision 18. Subd. 2. [PROHIBITION.] No contract may provide for an exclusive right to display free newspapers for distribution in any place of public accommodation. Sec. 2. [EFFECTIVE DATE; APPLICABILITY.] Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment and applies to contracts entered into or renewed on or after that date.
