Laws of Minnesota 1990 CHAPTER 363-S.F.No. 2353 An act relating to vocational rehabilitation; providing for supported employment programs; amending Minnesota Statutes 1988, section 129A.01, subdivisions 11, 12, and by adding a subdivision. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 1988, section 129A.01, subdivision 11, is amended to read: Subd. 11. [EXTENDED EMPLOYMENT PROGRAMS.] "Extended employment programs" means the following programs which may be offered by a rehabilitation facility: (1) long-term employment program; (2) work activity program; (3) work component program; and (4)community-basedsupported employment program. Sec. 2. Minnesota Statutes 1988, section 129A.01, subdivision 12, is amended to read: Subd. 12. [COMMUNITY-BASEDSUPPORTED EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM.] "Community-basedSupported employment program" means a program providing paid work and service hours in a position removed from a rehabilitation facility site. Sec. 3. Minnesota Statutes 1988, section 129A.01, is amended by adding a subdivision to read: Subd. 14. [SUPPORTED EMPLOYMENT.] "Supported employment" means employment of a person with a disability so severe that the person needs ongoing training and support to get and keep a job in which: (1) the person engages in paid work in a position removed from the service vendor's site where individuals without disabilities who do not require public subsidies also may be employed; (2) public funds are necessary to provide ongoing training and support services throughout the period of the person's employment; and (3) the person has the opportunity for social interaction with individuals who do not have disabilities and who are not paid caregivers. Sec. 4. [EFFECTIVE DATE.] Sections 1 to 3 are effective the day following final enactment. Presented to the governor March 27, 1990 Signed by the governor March 29, 1990, 9:38 p.m.
