A bill for an act
relating to military affairs; creating a fund for the
purpose of reimbursing members of the National Guard
or other reserve component of the armed forces for
certain premiums paid for life insurance;
appropriating money; proposing coding for new law in
Minnesota Statutes, chapter 190.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

(a) The service members' life insurance reimbursement fund
is created in the state treasury, consisting of:

(1) legislative appropriations;
new text end
new text begin
(2) gifts, grants, donations, and bequests to the fund; and
new text end

(3) income from investment of the fund.

(b) Money in the fund is annually appropriated to the
adjutant general for the purpose of reimbursing eligible members
of this state's National Guard or other reserve component of the
armed forces of the United States for premiums paid for benefits
under the service members' group life insurance program, as
provided for in United States Code, title 38, section 1965 et
seq., as amended.

(c) The adjutant general shall adopt rules necessary to
determine eligibility for reimbursement and to implement a
reimbursement program. Nothing in this section is intended to
alter, amend, or change the eligibility or applicability of the
service members' group life insurance program, as provided for
in United States Code, title 38, section 1965 et seq., as
amended, or any rights, responsibilities, or benefits thereunder.

appropriated from the general fund to the service members' life
insurance reimbursement fund to pay premium reimbursements, as
provided in section 1.

Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment
and applies to premiums paid on or after that date.
