A bill for an act
relating to education; appropriating money for a collaborative intensive summer
school program.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

A collaborative intensive summer school program for students in grades 5 through 12
is established among nine school districts. The school districts of Ely, Independent School
District No. 696; St. Louis County, Independent School District No. 2142; Mesabi East,
Independent School District No. 2711; Mountain Iron-Buhl, Independent School District
No. 712; Chisholm, Independent School District No. 695; Hibbing, Independent School
District No. 701; Nashwauk-Keewatin, Independent School District No. 319; Virginia,
Independent School District No. 706; and Eveleth-Gilbert, Independent School District No.
2154, must collaborate to provide an intensive summer school program that includes
vocational, academic, fine arts, and recreational programming in each of the school districts
spread over a three-week period during the summer.

$2,000,000 in fiscal year 2021 is appropriated from the general fund to the commissioner
of education for the collaborative intensive summer school program. The nine collaborating
school districts must provide matching funds equal to the grant amount. The matching funds
may be in cash or in-kind contributions. This appropriation is available until June 30, 2021.
