A bill for an act
relating to education; establishing the minimum length of a school day; amending Minnesota Statutes 2006, section 120A.41.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
Minnesota Statutes 2006, section 120A.41, is amended to read:
new text begin (a) new text end A school board's annual school calendar must include at least the number of days
of student instruction the board formally adopted as its school calendar at the beginning of
the 1996-1997 school year.

(b) Consistent with paragraph (a), the length of a school day must at least equal
the length of a day of student instruction in the school calendar that the school board
formally adopted at the beginning of the 2006-2007 school year. A school board, at its
discretion, may increase the length of a day of student instruction beyond the minimum
established in this paragraph.

This section is effective for the 2007-2008 school year and
later.
