  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to civil actions; limiting liability of 
  1.3             financial institutions providing data for the criminal 
  1.4             alert network; amending Minnesota Statutes 1996, 
  1.5             section 299A.61, by adding a subdivision. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 299A.61, is 
  1.8   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 3.  [LIMIT ON LIABILITY OF FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS.] A 
  1.10  financial institution that provides or reasonably attempts to 
  1.11  provide stolen, forged, fraudulent, or worthless check 
  1.12  information for use by the crime alert network or law 
  1.13  enforcement agencies investigating a crime is not liable to any 
  1.14  person for disclosing the information or for taking any other 
  1.15  action, provided that the financial institution is acting in 
  1.16  good faith.
