  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to state government; directing the office of 
  1.3             strategic and long-range planning and the department 
  1.4             of administration to recommend ways to decentralize 
  1.5             state agencies and departments. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [DECENTRALIZATION.] 
  1.8      It is the policy of the Minnesota legislature to bring 
  1.9   state government services closer to all people of our state in 
  1.10  order to serve them better.  A number of state departments have 
  1.11  offices in all regions of Minnesota, but some do not.  
  1.12     The office of strategic and long-range planning shall make 
  1.13  recommendations identifying methods for immediate and long-term 
  1.14  planning to locate state employment opportunities and facilities 
  1.15  outside the metropolitan area.  The office shall report its 
  1.16  recommendations to the senate finance committee and the house of 
  1.17  representatives ways and means committee by January 15, 2002.
