A bill for an act
relating to local government; providing that a city charter does not restrict the
ability of a city to issue a liquor license; amending Minnesota Statutes 2016, section
410.121.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
Section 1.
Minnesota Statutes 2016, section 410.121, is amended to read:

If the charter which is to be amended or replaced contains provisions which prohibit the
sale of intoxicating liquor or wine in certain areas, such provisions shall not be amended or
removed unless 55 percent of the votes cast on the proposition shall be in favor thereof.

Notwithstanding any other law, a city charter may not restrict the ability of a city to issue
an intoxicating liquor license otherwise in compliance with applicable law.
