A bill for an act
relating to natural resources; requiring contracts for agricultural services
performed on lands administered by the commissioner of natural resources;
amending Minnesota Statutes 2008, section 84.025, by adding a subdivision.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2008, section 84.025, is amended by adding a
subdivision to read:

new text begin Agricultural services. new text end

new text begin (a) The commissioner shall negotiate contracts,
subject to the competitive bidding requirements of chapter 16C, for the provision of
agricultural services on land administered by the commissioner. For purposes of this
subdivision, agricultural services include:

new text begin (1) mowing, when the by-product of the mowing may be used for hay, forage, or
mulch;
new text end

new text begin (2) planting crops for wildlife foraging; and
new text end

new text begin (3) other traditionally agricultural activities that require the use of agricultural
equipment or that produce a by-product of value for agricultural purposes.

new text begin (b) When the agricultural service produces a by-product of value for agricultural
purposes, a bidder may opt to retain the by-product as a term of the contract.
