  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to traffic regulations; providing for 
  1.3             designation of senior citizen crossings; deleting 
  1.4             requirement that a senior citizen crossing on a trunk 
  1.5             highway be with the consent of the commissioner of 
  1.6             transportation; prescribing minimum size requirements 
  1.7             of residential facilities in order to qualify for 
  1.8             senior citizen crossing; amending Minnesota Statutes 
  1.9             2000, section 169.215, subdivision 1. 
  1.10  BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.11     Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 169.215, 
  1.12  subdivision 1, is amended to read: 
  1.13     Subdivision 1.  [DESIGNATION OF CROSSINGS.] Local 
  1.14  authorities may designate a crossing for senior citizens or 
  1.15  disabled persons on any street or highway in the vicinity of a 
  1.16  senior citizen housing project, senior citizen nursing home, or 
  1.17  residential care facility for disabled persons on the basis of 
  1.18  after an engineering and traffic investigation prescribed by the 
  1.19  commissioner and subject to the uniform specifications adopted 
  1.20  pursuant to subdivision 2.  Designation of a crossing for senior 
  1.21  citizens or disabled persons on a trunk highway is subject to 
  1.22  the written consent of the commissioner.  For purposes of this 
  1.23  subdivision a project, home, or facility must have at least 12 
  1.24  residents to qualify as a senior housing project, senior citizen 
  1.25  nursing home, or residential care facility for disabled persons.
