1.1 A bill for an act 1.2 relating to crime prevention; providing for increased 1.3 criminal penalties for persons who use children to 1.4 import controlled substances into the state; amending 1.5 Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 152.0261, by adding a 1.6 subdivision. 1.7 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 1.8 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 152.0261, is 1.9 amended by adding a subdivision to read: 1.10 Subd. 1a. [USE OF PERSON UNDER 18 TO IMPORT.] A person who 1.11 conspires with or employs a person under the age of 18 to cross 1.12 a state or international border into Minnesota while that person 1.13 or the person under the age of 18 is in possession of an amount 1.14 of a controlled substance that constitutes a controlled 1.15 substance crime under sections 152.021 to 152.025, is guilty of 1.16 importing controlled substances and may be sentenced as provided 1.17 in subdivision 3.
