A bill for an act
relating to transportation; amending certain insurance information requirements
for motorcycles; making technical changes; amending Minnesota Statutes 2016,
section 169.798, subdivision 4.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
Section 1.
Minnesota Statutes 2016, section 169.798, subdivision 4, is amended to read:
Subd. 4.
Insurance information required.
new text begin (a) new text end Every owner, when applying for motor
vehicle deleted text begin or motorcycledeleted text end registration, reregistration, or transfer of ownership, must provide
information showing that the motor vehicle deleted text begin or motorcycledeleted text end is covered by an insurance policy.
Information required under this subdivision consists of the insurance company's name, the
policy number, and the policy expiration date for the subject motor vehicle deleted text begin or motorcycledeleted text end .

(b) The requirements of this subdivision do not apply to transfer of ownership of a
motorcycle, regardless of motorcycle registration.

This section is effective the day following final enactment, and
applies to transfers of ownership occurring on or after that date.
